The International Workshop on Nanomechanical Sensing (NMC2014) was celebrated in Madrid

The 11th International Workshop on Nanomechanical Sensing, NMC 2014, was held in Madrid from April 30th to May 2nd, 2014. This year we celebrated 10 years of the Workshop on Nanomechanical Sensing that happened for the first time in 2004 in Madrid. The conference took place in the conference room of the Hotel NH Eurobuilding.

The NMC2014 consisted of scientific lectures about sensors based on nanomechanical transducers such as cantilevers, MEMS/NEMS, as well as local probes. The NMC2014 brought together leaders from both academia and companies to discuss innovative developments in this exciting field in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

The technical program of the Workshop consisted of 6 plenary presenters, 9 invited presenters, as well as 43 contributed podium presentations, 65 contributed poster presentations and a total of 152 participants from around the world.

This year we had a special session dedicated to the exciting field of cell mechanics.

The conference has been sponsored by Comunidad de Madrid and FEDER EU through project NOBIMAT S2009/MAT-1507.

The Bionanomechanics group has achieved a significant advance in the understanding of the mechanical properties of human cells: it has successfully demonstrated that living cells, specifically human breast epithelial cells, exhibit mechanical resonances, a phenomenon previously considered implausible due to the extraordinary viscosity and complexity of cells in physiological media. https://journals.aps.org/prxlife/accepted/75070K26Wa31f40a872881247617595fa407ee3d3 You can learn more…
